The Arts at Alphonsus

Learning Through Art

Throughout their time at Alphonsus, each student is exposed to and participates in a variety of arts experiences. Students in preschool through fourth grade participate in art, drama, and music. Middle school students “graduate” to arts pathways classes, which offer students new perspectives and challenge to expand their traditional view of “art.”

Arts Pathways

The Arts Pathways are set up so that middle school students’ interests determine their arts classes, while ensuring that students continue their education in our core arts disciplines of music, drama, and visual art.

Each year students are required to enroll in one music class, one drama class, and one visual art class.  All students take at least one additional arts class based on their interest.

All arts pathway classes meet twice a week, and students are enrolled in two arts classes each trimester. Band requires a commitment for the entire year where drama, art, and other music classes are offered as trimester-long opportunities.

Arts Portfolios

The arts are central to our students’ educational experience and are necessary to our students’ development as well-rounded, creative young people. Two complementary strands of arts instruction and engagement– Arts-Integration and Arts Classes–make up our unique approach.  At Alphonsus, we connect to the world through art.
